Velingrad is situated at about 750 metres above the sea level, in the western part of Chepintsi Valley, in Rodopi Mountains. It is located 120 km southeast of Sofia and 48 km away from Pazardjik. The town is a notable spa resort, offering a variety of spa procedures. The mineral springs are more than 70, with temperatures, ranging from 22 to 90 degrees Centigrade. Climatic treatment, as well as mud treatment is practiced too.
The symbol of the town is Kleptuza Karst Spring, which has been declared a nature landmark. The water of the spring has an average temperature of 8 degrees Centigrade. The Karst spring is located in ?Chepino? district, which is one of the three thermal zones of Velingrad.
Yundola Mountain is a convenient starting point for Milev?s Rocks mountain route. Velingrad is also close to the remains of Tsepina Medieval Fortress which are actually ruins of fortress walls and churches from the 11th-13th century.
