Transport Infrastructure and Public Services
Although the Rhodope Mountain is not very much populated and well preserved there is a good network of roads giving you access to any part of the mountain during the whole year.
The Rhodope Mountain is about 2,5-3h far away from the capital Sofia when travelling by car and about one hour from the second big city Plovdiv (about 0,6 million inhabitants).
The whole mountain is covered by public transport throughout the year. There are modern hospitals in all bigger cities like Smolyan, Haskovo and Kardjali, while a network of general doctors medical points are located in all smaller places. A well developed Emergency Medical Service exists together with a Mountain Rescue Service.
There are also Tourist Information Centres in all tourist resorts like Pamporovo or Chepelare. A very good Information Centre is located also in the town of Devin.
One not so well known fact about Pamporovo and the region. A first class road is being built at the moment (will be completed 2008), which will connect Bulgaria with the Greek coastline. This way you will be in the mountains - ski resort (winter time) and 1 hour drive to the beautiful Greek coastal line (summer time). This will quickly increase the value of all real estate in the region.
